South Korea's strong friendship with PH will continue, says envoy

​South Korea's envoy to the Philippines believes that the good friendship between the two countries will continue, considering the "many meaningful things" that are taking place.

Among these included the South Korea-Philippines' joint endeavor to address the Covid-19 crisis by agreeing to take a 3-billion US dollar​ credit line until 2026.

" would have been missed opportunities without the dedication of many people who value our friendship," South Korean Ambassador Kim In-Chul said during the celebration of Korea National Day on Wednesday night.

The diplomat also expressed confidence that the "momentum" of friendship between South Korea and the Philippines "will further consolidate."

He believed the friendship between the two countries is the most valuable since it "is more called for in these difficult times." He added it is "based on sympathy, respect and solidarity, high expectations and the concomitant trust."

For Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA) Assistant Secretary for Asian and Pacific Affairs Neal Imperial, it is more than that.

In his remark during the event, he said the friendship of both countries is even "etched in blood."

"The fateful beginnings of our ties were borne of a fraternal commitment to help defend peace, freedom and sovereignty," he said, noting the around 7,000 Filipino soldiers who stood with the Koreans during the Korean War.

For the Philippines, he said, Korea is a "global economic leader" that also supports the country's development agenda to transform its economy and society for the better.
