For this year’s World Teacher’s Day, the Pasig City local government reaffirmed its support for public school teachers for their roles and contributions in our society.

“Sa ating mga guro -- maraming maraming salamat sa inyong sakripisyo at dedikasyon, lalo na sa mga panahon na napakahirap ng transisyon natin papunta sa distance learning at pabalik sa face-to-face (To our teachers – thank you very much for your sacrifices and dedication, especially in this time when it is extremely difficult to transition from distance learning and back to face-to-face),” said Pasig City Mayor Vico Sotto in a social media post.

“Dahil sa inyo, hindi tumigil ang pag-aaral ng ating mga kabataan sa gitna ng pandemya (Because of you, the education of our youth continued even amid the pandemic),” Sotto added.

The Pasig Schools Division Office (SDO) ensures the local government stands with teachers in pushing for quality education for Pasigueños.

“Binibigyang halaga ng LGU ang mahalagang ambag ng mga guro sa pagtataguyod ng bansa sa pamamagitan ng pagtuturo at paggabay sa mga kabataan upang maging mga responsableng mamamayan sa hinaharap (The local government gives importance to the meaningful contributions of our teachers to our country through teaching and guiding our youth to become responsible citizens of the future),” they said.

Pasig SDO Superintendent Evalou Agustin also expressed her gratitude to her fellow educators, saying teachers "play a crucial role in building our nation."

The SDO shared the local government’s ongoing programs for teachers, particularly in providing financial and material assistance to aid their work.

On Sept. 22, the Pasig City Council passed on its third and final reading a resolution granting P1,000 as cash incentive to all teaching and non-teaching personnel of the city’s public schools for World Teachers Day.

This is in addition to the P3,000 monthly allowance received by the SDO teachers from the local government. An allowance is also given to alternative learning system (ALS) teachers, as well as those who teach the Madrasah education programs.

Amid the pandemic, teachers were given laptops and other gadgets as teaching tools set to aid them in remote learning.

The local government has also afforded them with scholarship opportunities to hone their teaching skills and knowledge.

Selected teachers joined the Reading course at the Philippine Normal University (PNU), and others qualified for the Science course offered by the University of Sto. Tomas (UST).

Both programs were established through joint memorandums of agreement between the local government and the schools in question.
