CityDanse Academy students to deliver their rendition of ‘The Nutcracker’

These young dancers are ready to take the stage

After almost three years in a pandemic, the young students of CityDanse Academy (CDA) are excited to showcase their talents. They will take the center stage for a live performance of their rendition of the classic ballet act, “The Nutcracker.”

CDA is composed of professional dancers representing the highest caliber of talent. They present a broad repertoire, including timeless classical ballets, neo-classical ballets, contemporary, jazz, and dance sports.

Aspiring ballet artists from ages three to 12 years old, together with 15 professional dancers from the academy will present the magical Christmas ballet tradition for all the family. “The Nutcracker” is a timeless ballet story all over the world, with professional dance companies and schools doing their own version.

“We chose ‘The Nutcracker’ because it is a much-loved classic ballet production around the world,” Dr. Salve B. Arbo, CEO of CDA tells Manila Bulletin Lifestyle. “It is popular with families, hence, it is perfect to restage it this holiday season.”

But preparing for this act is not easy, not just for the institution but for the students as well. The young dancers will train for four months to master the whole act for this show.

“Choosing ‘The Nutcracker’ as a production is already a challenge to begin with,” Arbo says. “Much more with our aspiring artists, faculties, creative team, and choreographer. It is very time-consuming and tiring. But in the end, it is so much as our common goal includes our ever-supportive parents and guardians. We always bond during rehearsals and support each other a lot. Working together makes us all better.”

Slip away into the warm drawing room of the Silberhaus family and watch as Clara’s surroundings transform before your eyes. From the dance of the Sugar Plum Fairy to the snow, the land of the sweets and to the fight scene between the good and bad—this classical ballet will delight the audiences.

Gather your family and friends and embark on a journey to a dreamworld where bravery and imagination save the day. Join this student and support them by watching this performance this coming Dec. 4, 2022 at 2:00 p.m. at Carlos P. Romulo Theater, RCBC Plaza, Ayala Avenue, Makati City.
