Gen. Rodolfo Azurin, Jr., chief of the Philippine National Police (PNP), assured the family of veteran broadcaster Percival Mabasa that the police will do everything in its power to solve his killing.
Azurin visited the wake of Mabasa, known in the broadcast industry as Percy Lapid, on Tuesday night, Oct. 4

"I gave them the assurance that the police will ensure to investigate the case until the end--to identify all the culprits and to file charges against them," said Azurin.
Azurin said he also ordered the Southern Police District leadership to leave no stone unturned in the conduct of the probe, including the review of all areas where Mabasa passed by before he was attacked on Monday night, Oct. 3.
He, however, would not give specific details as to the motive and attack, saying that although they already have persons of interest, it would be premature to discuss the matter, especially that there are still no pieces of evidence that could stand in court.
"We are looking at different persons of interest but as of now we cannot yet determine because we have no sufficient evidence," said Azurin.
Azurin said he also discussed the matter with the family of Mabasa who told him that they prefer holding the right persons accountable even if it would mean a longer investigation period.
The official said that there is a need to bring justice to the killing of Mabasa as the veteran and outspoken broadcast journalist was only doing his job.
"We are now coordinating with all the people who could shed light into this senseless killing and we also appeal to other people to cooperate in order to resolve this matter in the soonest possible time," said Azurin.
Mabasa was gunned down while on his way home. He was shot dead in front of the gate of a subdivision where he lives.
Based on the police report, a white Sports Utility Vehicle deliberately bumped the car of Mabasa from behind apparently to force him to stop the vehicle, The gunman on board a motorcycle then shot him twice.
