Scattered rains, thunderstorms prevail over eastern Luzon due to easterlies

The Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) on Tuesday, Oct. 4, said the easterlies—or the warm winds coming from the Pacific Ocean—will continue to bring scattered rain showers and thunderstorms over some parts of eastern Luzon in the next 24 hours.

PAGASA advised those in Cagayan, Isabela, Aurora, and Quezon to be vigilant against possible flash floods or landslides during moderate to heavy rains.

Meanwhile, the rest of the country, including Metro Manila, will have partly cloudy to cloudy skies with chances of rain showers or thunderstorms due to the intertropical convergence zone (ITCZ) and localized thunderstorms.

ITCZ is a region where winds coming from the northeast and southeast hemispheres converge that triggers thunderstorms and rain showers.

The public is also advised to stay vigilant against possible flash floods or landslides during severe thunderstorms, which are often accompanied by sudden heavy rains, lightning, thunder, gusty winds, and sometimes hail.

Although no gale warning is in effect over the country’s seaboards as of Monday, PAGASA still advised fisherfolk and seafarers to remain vigilant as moderate seas may prevail over Northern and Central Luzon.

PAGASA said the rest of the archipelago will have slight to moderate seas.
