QC police arrest man for stealing from church donation box; another for robbery hold-up

A man was arrested by the police after he allegedly stole money from a donation box inside a church in Quezon City on Monday night, Oct. 3.

The Quezon City Police District (QCPD) Batasan Police Station (PS 6) identified the suspect as Erwin Concepcion, 31, from Valenzuela City.

According to the police, Maximo Alcalde Jr., 29, the security guard in charge was patrolling the premises of the St. Peter Parish Church in Barangay Batasan Hills at around 6:35 p.m. when he noticed the suspect, carrying a metal saw, go inside a comfort room where a donation box was placed.

The security guard saw Concepcion forcibly opened the padlock of the box using the metal saw and took the money. He pounced on the suspect to arrest him.

Alcalde recovered from Concepcion the P625 alleged stolen donation, the metal saw, and three screwdrivers before he sought help from the police. The suspect was brought to the PS 6.

He will be charged for violation of Article 299 of the Revised Penal Code (Robbery in an Inhabited House or Public Building or Edifice Devoted to Worship), police said.

Meanwhile, another man was arrested by members of the QCPD Anonas Station (PS 9) for an alleged robbery hold-up in Barangay Amihan, Quezon City on the same day.

Police said the victim, Rommel Pascual, 23, a delivery boy, was walking in front of Batino Elementary School at around 7:45 p.m. on Monday, when two men approached him, pointed a knife towards him, declared the heist, and took his red Vivo Y15 cellphone worth P12,000. The suspects fled towards Aurora Boulevard.

It added that some concerned citizens helped the victim and was able to hold one of the suspects. His cohort carted away the stolen item.

The QCPD identified the arrested suspect as Carlo Sison Jr., 22, from Barangay San Martin De Pores in Quezon City. He was brought by arresting police officers to PS 9 at around 9:20 p.m. on Monday, for investigation.

His cohort was also identified as Russel Dantez, also from the said barangay.

Sison will be charged for robbery hold-up. Follow-up operations are being conducted by the police to locate his accomplice.
