PH possible to see 4,000 daily Covid-19 cases by end of October—DOH

The Philippines may once again experience 4,000 Covid-19 cases per day by the end of this month, the Department of Health (DOH) said on Tuesday, Oct. 4.

This is based on the current DOH projections amid the higher mobility and the optional wearing of face masks outdoors.

Recently, the OCTA Research Group also gave the same projection on the daily number of cases nationally.

“Itong sinasabi ng firm na magkakaroon tayo ng 4,000 na kaso by October, sa aming projections, maaring mangyari ito by the end of October (What this firm is saying that we will have 4,000 cases by October, in our projections, this may happen by the end of October),” said DOH Officer-in-Charge Maria Rosario Vergeire in a press briefing.

“Pero kapag mas bumaba pa ang compliance to minimum public health standards, maari pang tumaas ito (However, if compliance to minimum public health standards declines even more, cases may go higher) by the end of this month,” she noted.

Based on the DOH Covid-19 tracker, a total of 1,347 new cases of Covid-19 were recorded on Tuesday.

The new case brought the number of active cases nationwide to 26,792.

The regions with the most cases in the last 14 days were Metro Manila with 13,559 followed by Calabarzon with 5,616, Central Luzon with 2,836, Davao region with 1,360, and Soccsksargen with 747.

The number of recoveries climbed to 3,867,242 while the death toll rose to 63,078. Since 2020, the cumulative total of confirmed cases in the Philippines was at 3,957,112.
