Zamboanga City sustains P122-M damage from ‘Paeng’


ZAMBOANGA CITY – Damage to infrastructure and agriculture in this city from severe tropical storm ‘’Paeng’’ was placed at P122 million.

The Zamboanga City Disaster Risk Reduction Management Office reported on Monday, Oct. 31, that damage to infrastructure was P121 million and P1.8 million in agriculture.

More than 10,000 families or 60,000 individuals are staying in 28 evacuation centers here.

The City Engineer’s Office reported that most of the damaged infrastructure are slope protection facilities and bridges either destroyed or swept away by strong river current.

The Office of the City Agriculturist said 44.4 hectares of agricultural land planted with rice and vegetables were destroyed.

The Zamboanga city government has declared a state of calamity due to the destruction from the storm.

Four persons were killed by Paeng while two are still missing here.

Mayor John Dalipe has ordered all concerned city hall departments to submit their reports for the early and efficient allocation of resources for assistance to victims.
