‘Paeng’ kills 9, injures 5 in Quezon, Laguna


CAMP BRIG. GEN. VICENTE LIM, Laguna – Police reported on Monday, Oct. 31, that nine people have been killed and five were injured in Quezon and Laguna by tropical cyclone “Paeng.”

Seven fatalities and five injuries were recorded in Quezon. Two casualties were in Laguna.

In Quezon, fatalities were identified were Arnel Atienza, Marlon Taburdan, Michael Perez, Jerald Sinar, Felipe Monteroso, and Ronaldo Abrea, and an unidentified male whose body on the seashore of Barangay Dalahican in Lucena City.

Fatalities in Laguna were Maria Theresa Tamayo and Jerry Cayobit.

On the other hand, injured were Quezon residents Jovelyn Enano, Benjamin Betangcor, Jun Paolo Carino, Minerva Olguera, and Rhed Olguera.

Meanwhile, the Quezon Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council has approved a resolution requesting the Sangguniang Panlalawigan to place the province under a state of calamity due to the effects of Paeng.

Gov. Angelina Tan led a Zoom video conference with the PDRRMC on Sunday, Oct. 30, at the Quezon Preparedness Operation Center (QPOC) in Barangay Isabang, Tayabas City and received initial assessment and damage reports from the Provincial Social Welfare and Development Office, Provincial Engineering Office, four engineering districts of the Department of Public Works and Highways, the Department of Education, the Provincial Agriculturist's Office, the Provincial Veterinarian's Office, and other concerned agencies.

As of 10 a.m. Sunday, preliminary damage to farming and fishing in Quezon was estimated at P281,390,091.83.
