Marcos joins aerial inspection, relief goods distribution in Paeng-hit Cavite areas
CAVITE – President Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr. joined the aerial inspection of the areas hit by "Paeng" on Monday, Oct. 31.
Cavite 1st District Rep. Jolo Revilla posted photos on Facebook showing the President distributing relief goods, along with Department of Social Welfare and Development Secretary Erwin Tulfo, Senator Bong Revilla, Cavite Gov. Jonvic Remulla, Cavite 2nd District Rep. Lani Mercado-Revilla, Agimat Partylist Rep. Bryan Revilla, Bacoor Mayor Strike Revilla, and Cavite City Mayor Denver Chua.
Following the aerial inspection, Marcos went to Noveleta, one of the hardest-hit areas in Cavite.
Mayor Dino Reyes-Chua posted videos of the President attending a situation briefing on the damage caused by the severe tropical storm. Marcos also joined the distribution of relief goods in the municipality.
During the press briefing, the President said current estimates peg the worth of damage in agriculture in Cavite at P260 million. However, he said the figure is expected to swell as more reports come in.
Marcos said most of the evacuees in Cavite have returned to their homes and are set to get assistance from the government as they rebuild their houses.
With the short-term needs of flood victims being addressed, the President said they are also talking about long-term solutions to flood problems in Cavite.
"May possibility na merong project na approved na, na galing sa Japanese, sa JICA, na palalakihin nila 'yung ilog para mas malaki ang dadaanan ng tubig. Then, syempre may mga flood-control na gagawin (There is a possibility of an approved project from the Japanese, Japan International Cooperation Agency, that they will widen the river to make a bigger waterway. Then, of course, there will be flood-control measures in place)," Marcos said.
In a Facebook post on Oct. 30, Gov. Remulla said four river walls in Noveleta collapsed during the onslaught of the severe tropical storm, bringing raging waters into residential areas.
