ILOILO CITY – The Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) is constructing a temporary access or bailey bridge over the Oyungan Bridge in Miag-ao, Iloilo damaged during the onslaught of severe tropical storm ‘’Paeng.’’

“The construction of a bailey type bridge will take two weeks,” the Miag-ao Public Information Office (Miag-ao PIO) said in an advisory.
Miag-ao Mayor Richard Garin urged DPWH to find the necessary solution after the bridge was closed to vehicular traffic last Saturday, Oct. 29, when soil collapsed at its slope protection and a crack was discovered in the middle.
The bridge links the towns of Miag-ao and San Joaquin and used by hundreds of vehicles traveling between Iloilo and Antique province.
The bailey bridge will allow light vehicles weighing five to 10 tons to cross. At present, only pedestrians and motorcycles are allowed to cross the damaged bridge.
The Oyungan Bridge is one of many damaged by Paeng in Panay Island. Several bridges were also damaged in Antique.
