Barangay tanod fatally stabbed with 'tari' in Cebu


CEBU CITY – A barangay tanod (watchman) died after he was allegedly stabbed by two minors with a cockfighting gaff or "tari" before dawn on Monday, Oct. 31, in Barangay Tagaguimit, City of Naga, Cebu.

Police identified the fatality as Danilo Alerta Sr., 57.

Lt. Col. Junnel Caadlawon, chief of the City of Naga Police Station, said a rumble involving minors broke out in Sitio Argonix at past 2 a.m.

Alerta responded and tried to pacify the warring groups but two minors turned their anger on him and stabbed him in the chest with a gaff.

The victim was rushed to a hospital where he died.

The victim’s attackers, both 17, were arrested about seven hours after the incident.

Police said the suspects were detained at the City of Naga Police Station pending the filing of charges against them.
