BAGUIO CITY – The Department of Social Welfare and Development said 2,720 families or 11,150 persons from 99 barangays in 34 towns in six provinces in the Cordillera region were affected by severe tropical storm ‘’Paeng.’’

The DSWD-Cordillera said as of 12 noon on Monday, Oct. 31, the province of Abra had the most number of affected families with 2,319 or 9,680 individuals in 29 barangays in six towns.

One-hundred eight-nine families or 679 individuals were displaced in 24 barangays in eight towns in Mountain Province and 62 families or 269 people in 13 barangays in five towns in Kalinga;

Seventy-six families or 267 people from 14 barangays in seven towns in Ifugao were evacuated due to the threat of landslides.

In Apayao, 46 families or 156 people from 10 barangays in three towns in Apayao were taken to safety because of flooding and living in landslide-prone areas.

In Benguet, 27 families or 96 people were evacuated from their homes in landslide-prone areas in eight barangays in four towns.

One family was evacuated in Baguio City.

Six houses were totally damaged in the Cordillera – three in Sadanga, Mountain Province; two in Lubuagan, Kalinga, and one in Buguias, Benguet.

Two persons were injured while one reported missing in Balbalan, Kalinga at the height of Paeng on Oct. 29 was found dead on the river bank in Pinukpuk, Kalinga on Oct. 31.

The DSWD-Cordillera has distributed 38,295 family food packs and 3,839 non-food to those affected by Paeng.
