Zamboanga City was placed under a state of calamity on Saturday, Oct. 29, following massive destruction from severe tropical storm ‘’Paeng.’’

The Sangguniang Panlungsod ratified the declaration during a special session.
As of noon Sunday, Oct. 30, the City Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (CDRRMO) reported five confirmed deaths due to Paeng.
Three persons are still missing while 12 sustained injuries.
The CDRRMO said 8,698 families were affected and 41,000 persons were rendered homeless by Paeng.
Assessment is ongoing.
A aerial Rapid Damage Assessment and Need Analysis (RDANA) trip over Zamboanga City via an Air Force helicopter showed that low lying areas remain flooded as of Saturday afternoon.
Mayor John Dalipe noted the destruction of major infrastructure and facilities after the storm.
