ILOILO CITY – The province of Aklan has been placed under a state of calamity due to massive flooding and infrastructure damage from tropical storm ‘’Paeng.’’

Gov. Jose Enrique "Joen" Miraflores thanked the Aklan Provincial Board led by Vice Gov. Reynaldo Quimpo for conducting a special session to declare the state of calamity.
The Aklan Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (PDDRMO) said Paeng has killed at least five persons and displaced 84,500 individuals.
Eighty barangays in 17 towns have been affected by flooding or landslide while various damage to property was recorded.
The old Kalibo Bridge that connects the provincial capital of Kalibo and Numancia, Iloilo had to be closed.
A big hole was found after strong flood current caused the soil below one of the bridge’s approach to collapse.
Over the weekend, Miraflores, as well as Reps. Carlito Marquez and Ted Haresco, conducted an inspection to determine damage from Paeng as well as making sure relief goods are distributed to evacuees.
