SAN PABLO CITY, Laguna – This city was placed under a state of calamity on Saturday, Oct. 29, due to the effects of tropical cyclone “Paeng.”
The city council in a special session approved Resolution No. 280 placing this city under a state of calamity upon the recommendation of the City Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (CDRRMC).
Paeng affected all 33 barangays here. Damage from the storm has yet to be determined.
Mayor Vicente Amante here said the declaration will help speed up the provision necessary assistance to affected residents.
DPWH
The Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) Region 4-A (Cavite, Laguna, Batangas, Rizal, and Quezon area) said on Sunday, Oct. 30, that nine road sections in the region remain closed due to flood and landslides triggered by Paeng.
A bridge in Quezon collapsed and damage assessment is ongoing.
DPWH Region 4-A director Jovel Mendoza said assessment of landslide-hit areas and clearing operations will commence once the weather improves.
BATANGAS
Police reported that two persons are missing after they were swept away by a flash flood in a spill way in Lobo town at the height of Paeng on Saturday, Oct. 29.
The missing persons were identified as Jake Briones and Angel Tikatik.
Rescuers and police have yet to locate them.
A woman was rescued from a landslide in Talisay municipality.
She was identified as Lilibeth Lumban, 24.
Retrieval operations are ongoing for two other victims, Lourdes Lumban, 58, and a 13-year-old minor.
