River wall in Noveleta, Cavite collapses; flood victims wait for rescue from roof-tops

NOVELETA, Cavite – Residents wait to be rescued on their roof-tops after being stranded by floods caused by Severe Tropical Storm "Paeng" evening on Saturday, Oct. 29.

In an interview with ABS-CBN's Teleradyo, Mayor Dino Reyes-Chua said a wall between the Ylang-Ylang River and residential areas collapsed, aggravating the deluge from non-stop rains.

The floods gravely affect Barangays San Antonio I, San Antonio II, San Juan I, and San Juan II.

Reyes-Chua said some areas remain unreached by rescue teams because the local government unit does not have big rubber boats, and he does not want to put rescuers' lives in danger.

The mayor appealed to the Philippine Navy and the Philippine Coast Guard to help with rescue operations.

In a Facebook post, Cavite 1st District Rep. Jolo Revilla said he already coordinated with the Philippine Navy and that the Naval Installation Facility Cavite is set to send a cargo truck; a water, search, and rescue (WASAR) trailer with a rubber boat; and other Disaster Response and Rescue Team equipment.
