Over 900 aftershocks recorded after 6.4-magnitude Abra quake


State seismologists have already recorded 963 aftershocks following the magnitude 6.4 quake that shook the provinces of northern Luzon on Tuesday evening, Oct. 25.

The Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs) on Sunday, Oct. 30 disclosed that 963 aftershocks were recorded so far after the powerful quake.

Of the 963 recorded earthquakes ranging from magnitudes 1.3 to 4.8, only 280 were plotted while 18 were felt.

Plotted earthquakes were located by three or more stations according to Phivolcs. Recorded quakes, on the other hand, were detected by at least one seismic station.

The quake’s epicenter was traced 5 kilometers northeast of Lagayan, Abra at a depth of 16 kilometers. Highest reported intensity was at Phivolcs Earthquake Intensity Scale VII.
