Geje Eustaquio highly motivated to prove he still belongs among elite

Former ONE Flyweight World Champion Geje “Gravity” Eustaquio feels that he may have been overlooked during the past few years.
After all, “Gravity” still holds wins over No. 1 and No. 2-ranked flyweight contenders in Adriano Moraes and Kairat Akhmetov while being the only former flyweight king not to be included in the top five.
It’s something that’s been lingering on Eustaquio’s mind.
“There are only four individuals who managed to hold that flyweight World Championship. That’s Adriano, Akhmetov, DJ, and of course yours truly. I was surprised with the rankings. I was wondering why I couldn’t find my name, my moniker, ‘Gravity’ in the rankings,” he said,
“But I’m a positive man. I don’t look at it as my name should be there. I don’t want to start complaining as to why I can’t break into the top five. I just look forward to winning. I just want to win, win, win because I believe that’s the formula to get the chance to compete for the World Championship.”
Winning starts in the Philippines, as he returns to action against “Wolf Warrior” Hu Yong in an exciting MMA bout between two wushu artists at ONE 164: Pacio vs. Brooks at the Mall of Asia Arena on Dec. 3.
Having won his last two bouts, Eustaquio knows that another impressive win here against the tough Hu will be his ticket back to World Title relevancy.
“Hu Yong is really young, very durable. We’ve seen how he fought against Yuya Wakamatsu. Yuya is a known knockout artist, but he failed to finish Hu Yong and, based on my scouting, he’s very athletic and very young,” he said.
“From where I look at it right now, I’ve won two straight, and if I’m going to pass this test, it’s going to be three straight wins. I hope it’s good enough for me to break into the rankings and eventually get a World Title shot.”
Given that he’ll be competing in Manila for the first time in nearly three years, Eustaquio expects an energy boost from the crowd.
“I’m really excited. I miss the energy. I really miss the fun and the excitement and the feeling of competing in front of your countrymen. That’s what I miss the most,” he said.
“It’s been a long time actually, but I’m very happy that they already announced that I will be competing.”
