TACLOBAN CITY – Calbayog City in Samar was placed under a state of calamity due to the effects of severe tropical storm ‘’Paeng’’ on Saturday, Oct. 29.

The Sangguniang Panlungsod approved the order declaring a state of calamity in a special session. The declaration enables the city government to access funds for relief and recovery.
Flooding was recorded in Lower and Upper Happy Valley, Seven Hills, and Oquendo District, among others, forcing some families to evacuate and rendering some roads impassable.
A landslide was reported in Barangay Malayog, Tinambacan District, blocking the highway from Allen, Northern Samar.
The Police Regional Office-8 logged four fatalities and 1 injured in Eastern Visayas as of Sunday, Oct. 30.
A total of 4,066 families or 13,812 individuals evacuated in the region because of the tropical cyclone.
On the other hand, 1,848 passengers and 620 vehicles were stranded in seaports. Twenty-five areas were flooded and six roads were closed during the onslaught of Paeng.
Two bridges in Burauen, Leyte, and Naval, Biliran were damaged.
