Alec Stockton came through with a career-best show, sparking a huge fourth quarter breakaway as Converge repulsed Blackwater, 77-71, to extend its winning run to four in the 2022 PBA Commissioner’s Cup at the Ynares Center in Antipolo on Sunday, Oct. 30.
Stockton dissected and slashed his way to a career-high 15 points – six of which he unloaded in the final frame when he conspired with import Quincy Miller during a huge 11-0 run in the final five minutes of the contest that all but broke the Bossing’s backs.
The former FEU standout also collared eight rebounds while Miller scored a team-high of 22 points, 19 rebounds and four blocks to help the FiberXers improve to a 5-2 record for a solo third spot in the standings.
Law of averages seemed to have caught up with the FiberXers as after exploding with 21 triples in the statement 130-117 victory over the TNT Tropang Giga, Converge struggled to find the bottom of the net and was limited below 100 points for the first time under new head coach Aldin Ayo.
Converge was actually down by two, 68-66, halfway through the fourth quarter before Stockton went for back-to-back transition layups that sparked the run. Miller and RK Ilagan then followed suit as the FiberXers built a 77-68 lead with only 58 seconds left in the game
Cameron Krutwig paced the Bossing with 16 points and 15 rebounds while Rey Suerte and Ato Ular added 15 and 13, respectively. All of those, however, went in vain as Blackwater couldn’t sustain its good start where it raced to an early 11-2 lead and absorbed its second straight loss for a 3-5 win-loss slate.
