At least nine roads in the Southern Tagalog provinces of Cavite, Laguna, Batangas, Rizal and Quezon remain impassable as of 7 a.m. due to various obstructions after Tropical Storm ‘Paeng’ unleashed its fury, the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) said on Sunday, Oct. 30.
DPWH Regional 4-A Director Jovel Mendoza said the road sections closed to traffic are in the Tagaytay-Taal Lake Road, Barangay San Jose (Kilometer (K)0057+200-K0058+100), Tagaytay City; Tagaytay-Talisay Road, Barangay Sungay West, Tagaytay City and the Ternate-Nasugbu Road, Barangay Sapang I, Ternate, Cavite and the Lipa-Alaminos Road, Barangay Sta. Rosa, Alaminos, Laguna (KM0080+000).
In Quezon province, the DPWH noted that the road sections closed to traffic are the Marikina Infanta Road, Barangay Magsaysay, Infanta, Quezon (K0102 + 380) due to reported intermittent landslides; Tayabas-Mainit-Mauban Road between (K0150+000-K0151+000) due to fallen trees; San Juan- Candelaria Junction Candelaria-Bolboc Road due to collapsed Bantilan Bridge; Lutucan-Guisguis Port Road between KM124+650 - KM124+700; and Quezon Eco-Tourism Road at the intersection between KM153+850 - KM153+900 due to severe flooding.
The DPWH assessment on land slide areas and clearing operations are still on hold due to the risk of landslide and weather situation on-site while the collapsed bridge is under damage evaluation.
Meanwhile, roads with limited access or not passable to light vehicles due to flooding are the Cavite-Batangas Road K0015+(-544)-K0015(-400) (Aguinaldo Highway SM Bacoor); Manila-Cavite Road K0017+500-K0018+000 (Tirona Highway Habay SM
Bacoor); General Evangelista Road K0016+400-K0016+600 (Talaba 4 along Evangelista); Manila-Cavite Road K0016+400-K0016+700 & K0016+900-K0017+050 (Aguinaldo Highway Niog and Panapaan); Rizal Boundary-Famy - Quezon Bdry. Road along K0076 +
100 to K0076 + 550, Laguna; Calamba-Sta. Cruz-Famy Junction Road I K0051+(-077) - K0067+725 K0067+000 - K0069+000 Laguna; Daang Maharlika, Sariaya, Quezon Section Km 112+000; Imelda Avenue, Rizal K0019+500 - K0019+650; and Manila East Road, Rizal K0022+270 - K0022+350.
The DPWH said that all flooded roads are being monitored. (Chito A. Chavez)
