BACOLOD CITY – Fifteen persons, including the boat captain and a crew, were rescued after their private motorized pump boat capsized in the waters of Barangay Molocaboc, Sagay City, Negros Occidental province on Saturday, Oct. 29.
Lt. Col. Roberto Indiape Jr., Sagay police chief, said the owner and the boat captain still decided to transport 13 passengers despite the prohibition of the Philippine Coast Guard (PCG) from sailing due to tropical cyclone ‘’Paeng.’’
Indiape said that huge waves caused by strong winds battered their boat and capsized but all of them were rescued safely and were sent home.
Two persons were missing in the province due to Paeng.
In Cauayan, Peter Neil Perarin, 32, of Barangay Guiljungan, and his companion went fishing on Friday afternoon, Oct. 28, despite the bad weather.
Their boat capsized when it was hit by huge waves While they were on their way home in the evening.
Major Gary Alan Resuma, Cauayan police chief, said that Perarin’s companion managed to swim to the shore and was later rescued. Perarin is still missing as of 11 a.m. on Sunday, Oct. 30.
In Isabela town, Regie Fernandez, 33, of Barangay Riverside, had a drinking session with his co-worker in an adjacent barangay on Friday.
Police said Fernandez was crossing an overflow bridge in Baragay Cab-Cab on his way home in the evening on board a motorcycle and fell into the river.
Capt. Joseph Partidas, Isabela police chief, said the victim’s damaged motorcycle and clothes were found by bystanders who passed by the overflow bridge on Saturday morning.
Fernandez is still missing as of 11 a.m. Sunday, according to Partidas.
