PH, Israel eye agriculture collaboration

DAVAO CITY – Israel is eyeing collaboration with the Philippines on food security and agriculture.

“We are participating in the exhibition here (in Davao City) with Israeli companies that represent technologies and business practices, looking for opportunities to network with our counterparts in the private sector and the Philippine government,” Ambassador Ilan Fluss said at the 24th Davao Agri Trade Expo here.

He said that they are exploring whether they can establish businesses like biogas, dairy farming, hydroponics, and drip irrigation in the country.

Fluss said agriculture is the main focus of his efforts as the Israeli ambassador to the Philippines.

The ambassador said he has met President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. to enhance agricultural cooperation between the two countries.

The Israel Economic Mission to the Philippines organized Israel’s first-ever country pavilion at the Davao Agri Trade Expo from Sept. 29 to 30 as support to ensure food security in the Philippines,

"With more than 80 B2B meetings on the first day of the expo, we hope to see new partnerships growing between Israeli and Filipino companies on agriculture," Tomer Heyvi, head of the Economic Mission, said.

Fluss, Honorary Consul Jorge Marques, and Tomer Heyvi met Sen. Cynthia Villar in the expo. During the meeting, Israeli companies introduced themselves and their products and services offered.

Villar cited the Davao Agri Trade Expo. The event, she said, offers opportunities to further develop agribusiness and fortify the collaboration between the government and farmers in Mindanao.

DATE is one of the largest and most established agri-business expos in the Southern Philippines.

The Davao City Chamber of Commerce and Industry Inc. (DCCCII) has been organizing the event for several years.

Israel thanked the Davao City Chamber of Commerce and Industry for the collaboration and warm welcome.

Among the more than 70 participating exhibitors from various industries in the agriculture, business, cattle, dairy, poultry, pigs, and high-value crops sector were five Israeli enterprises led by their economic office.
