Man hacks son, niece dead in Sarangani, fatally shot by cousin to stop rampage

GLAN, Sarangani – A 30-year-old man hacked his two-year-old son and four-year old niece dead and was gunned down by his cousin to stop his rampage in a remote barangay in Glan, Sarangani on Saturday, Oct. 1.

Investigators said the suspect, Dewi Pondong, hacked his son, “Botyok,” and niece Ariana inside the house of his cousin, Boy Dewil Pondong, in Barangay Datal Bukay.

The suspect then attacked and injured Rose Ann Pondong, wife of Boy, and their one week-old son, Vincent.

Police said Dewi and his son had been staying in Boy’s house for more than a year before the tragic incident happened.

Dewi and his wife separated two years ago after he allegedly attempted to kill her by slashing her throat.

Police said Boy fatally shot the suspect with a homemade shotgun after he turned back to stop his rampage.

Boy voluntarily surrendered to the Glan municipal police station after the incident.
