Parañaque Mayor Olivarez orders preemptive evacuation of residents in low-lying areas
Parañaque City Mayor Eric Olivarez ordered the preemptive evacuation of families in low-lying areas and near river channels after the Philippine Atmospheric Geophysical and Astronomical (PAGASA) raised tropical cyclone wind to Signal No. 3 in Metro Manila.
Olivarez made the move as tropical storm “Paeng” is expected to bring heavy rains that may affect areas susceptible to flooding and storm surge.
Olivarez ordered all Barangay Disaster Risk and Reduction Management (BDRRM) offices to identify their respective evacuation centers and activate camp coordination and camp management (CCCM).
He also told the BDRRM focal person to closely coordinate with the city DRRM Emergency Operation Center and provide regular status updates.
The CDRRMO, City Social Welfare and Development Office (CSWDO), the local police and the Bureau of Fire were also directed to implement forced evacuation as situation warrants.
Olivarez said residents who may be affected by “Paeng” can temporarily stay at SM City Bicutam and SM City BF.
He said the malls are offering free WiFi and charging stations.
The malls also offer free overnight parking.
The mayor said the Ayala Malls Manila Bay will also allow residents to stay in the establishment, while Baclaran residents cand go to 207 Kalele Building for temporary shelter.
