NPA rebel killed in Gingoog City clash


ILIGAN CITY – A New People’s Army (NPA) rebel was killed in an encounter on Friday, Oct. 28, in Barangay Pigsalohan, Gingoog City.

According to 58th Infantry (Dimalulupig) Battalion commander Lt. Col. Christian Uy, troops were conducting intensified combat operations when they encountered about 10 NPA rebels believed to be remnants of the dismantled independent Platoon Falcon, SRC-1, NCMRC.

Troops recovered an AK47 rifle, two M16 rifles, one M14 rifle, one caliber .30 carbine, eight backpacks, one Improvised Explosive Devise (IED), personal belongings, and subversive documents.

A week earlier on Thursday, Oct. 20, an NPA rebel was also killed in an encounter with the 58th IB in Barangay Alagatan, Gingoog City.

The military has intensified security operations to maintain peace and order in eastern Misamis Oriental.

Uy reiterated his call to the NPA to lay down their arms to avoid the fate of their two comrades.
