Mother, 2 children rescued from landslide in Catbalogan City

TACLOBAN CITY – A mother and her two children were rescued from a landslide that buried their house in Purok 3, Barangay Bunuanan, Catbalogan City, Samar on Friday, Oct. 28.

The landslide occurred at 8:28 p.m. due to heavy rains from severe tropical storm “Paeng” in Region 8 or Eastern Visayas.

They were trapped inside their house which collapsed and covered by mud.

The victims were pulled out from the debris by the city rescue team around 11:20 p.m.

In Ormoc City, a five-year-old boy reportedly drowned in Barangay Juaton.

Rescuers were able to take him to the hospital but he was declared dead on arrival.

Several houses were washed out by flood in Barangay Dolho while the Marabong Bridge in Burauen, Leyte was destroyed.

As a result, the La Paz-Burauen Road is impassable.
