Metro Manila LGUs announce temporary closure of cemeteries due to STS ‘Paeng’

Due to the inclement weather brought by severe tropical storm (STS) “Paeng,” some local government units (LGUs) in Metro Manila have announced the temporary closure of cemeteries within their areas on Saturday, Oct. 29, urging the public to remain in their homes.

Marikina City LGU workers clean the surroundings of the Barangka Public Cemetery on Thursday, October 13, 2022. This comes two weeks before the observance of All Saints Day and All Souls Day, where people are expected to visit the final resting place of their loved ones. Pasig City

The Pasig LGU cancelled visitations at the Pasig City Cemetery (Barracks) on Saturday, Oct. 29.

However, funerals scheduled today at the barracks will continue. Families can also opt to reschedule their funerals on a later date.

The public is advised to wait for further announcements regarding the resumption of operations at the cemetery on Sunday, Oct. 30.

The LGU has also advised the administrators of private cemeteries in Pasig to consider temporarily closing their cemeteries as well.

Manila

Manila Mayor Honey Lacuna ordered all public cemeteries in the city, including the Manila North and South Cemeteries, to cease operations on Saturday.

Lacuna made the decision to ensure the safety of the public during this “Undas” period.

As of 8 a.m. Metro Manila was placed under the Tropical Cycle Wind Signal Warning (TCSW) Signal No. 3, according to the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA)’s tropical cyclone bulletin.

Heavy to intense torrential rains are expected to occur in the region from Saturday morning to evening.
