ILOILO CITY – Two New People’s Army (NPA) rebels were killed in an encounter with government forces in Alimodian town, Iloilo province on Friday, Oct. 28.
The 3rd Infantry Division (ID) of the Philippine Army confirmed the death of the two communist rebels in a report on Saturday, Oct. 29.
Lt. Col. Magno Mapalad, acting 3rd ID spokesperson, said the two unidentified communist rebels were killed in a 15-minute firefight with the 61st Infantry Battalion (IB) in Barangay Umingan.
“The troops were responding to the tip-off of residents when they encountered more or less nine NPA members,” said Mapalad.
Recovered from the encounter site were an M16 rifle, a defaced M16 rifle, a rifle grenade, a bandolier, five magazines, a stethoscope, and various subversive documents with high intelligence value.
