Serving vegetables during breakfast reinforces "love for veggies" among children

There is no doubt that vegetables are essential to the human diet since they are important sources of many nutrients. Experts from around the globe emphasize that vegetables should always be part of every meal. However, according to the World Health Organization (WHO), most people do not eat enough fruit and vegetables. Getting kids to eat vegetables is one of the trickiest things parents usually face.

A recently published work from a group of researchers led by Chris J McLeod from Loughborough University in the United Kingdom noted that the current nutritional guidelines in different parts of the world remain ineffective in solving the issue. One of the interventions that they suggested is regularly serving vegetables to children for breakfast.

This idea is not entirely new, but is not widely practiced, especially in Western societies, because of time and economic concerns. According to the group, breakfast is a time of the day when most children eat with their parents and practice meal behavior. It is a great time to reinforce the consumption of vegetables. In many cultures, vegetables are often served during lunch or dinner, and from time to time, as snacks. Therefore, offering them during breakfast provides additional exposure and normalization of vegetables as part of the day's meals.

Despite the limitations, it would be nice to serve vegetables during breakfast for a change, especially since it is considered the most important meal of the day!
