TACLOBAN CITY - As Tropical Storm 'Paeng' continues to bring heavy rains in Eastern Visayas, the Office of Civil Defense reported the cancellation of work, classes, and sea travel in Samar Island, Leyte, Southern Leyte, and Biliran Friday (October 28).
Flight 5J 657-658 routing Manila-Tacloban-Manila returned to Manila station and was canceled by Cebu Pacific Air at 2:15 p.m., although it was earlier declared that there would be no cancellation of the 18 commercial flights at DZR Airport here.
At least 220 families or 684 individuals have evacuated in Maasin City due to heavy rains and flooding.
Minor landslides have been recorded in Brgy. Camang, San Ricardo, Brgy. Baculod, Hinundayan, Brgy. Lugsungan, Limasawa, Brgy. Old Malangsa, Liloan, and Brgy. Malbago, Bontoc, all in Southern Leyte.
A motorized fishing boat carrying four fishermen capsized around 10:00 a.m. along the seawaters of San Francisco, Southern Leyte.
The boat capsized as it was reportedly hit by strong waves. The victims were rescued immediately.
Meanwhile, a 64-year-old fisherman has been reported missing in Marabut, Samar around 6 a.m.
Wright-Taft Borongan Road and Baybay-Mahaplag Road at Pamotasan Bridge going to Southern Leyte remain unpassable.
Signal No. 2 has been hoisted in Northern Samar, Eastern Samar, Northeastern Part of Leyte (Tacloban City, Babatngon, San Miguel, Barugo), and Biliran, while Signal No. 1 was raised for the rest of Leyte and Southern Leyte.
