LUCENA CITY, Quezon -- A driver of a van died while 10 of his passengers were injured in a vehicular accident that happened in the early hour of Friday, Oct. 28, in Barangay Demoit diversion road in this city.
The van driver was identified as Arjay Nosido dela Cueva, 31, a production operator, and resident of Purok 6 Basud, San Rafael, Guinobatan Albay.
Based on the investigation conducted by the Lucena City Police, a delivery van driven by Aries Nacor, 24, a resident of Barangay Cutcot, Pulilan, Bulacan, eluded a motorcycle, but it so doing, the vehicle overshot into the opposite lane.
As a result, the delivery van collided with an incoming passenger van driven by dela Cueva who died in the strong impact.
Lucena City Police chief Lt. Col. Reynaldo Reyes identified the 10 injured who were all passengers of the van driven by dela Cueva as Joan Broqueza, 33; Yohan Dela Cueva, 3, Allayne Jhoy Dela Cueva, 8, son and daughter of de la Cueva; Jojo Bertos Anobling, 46; Antonio Werba 58; Lourdes Werba Eleazar 62; Alicia Catangay Werba 54; Aizel Catangay Werba 31; Elwin Dela Cueva Badong 3, and Askelad Werba Badong, 11-month-old, son of Aizel.
They suffered head and body injuries and were sent to Quezon Medical Center and Lucena United Doctors Hospital by the responding members of the City Disaster Risk Reduction Management Office, Lucena City Philippine National Police, Bureau of Fire Protection-Lucena, and Quezon-PDRRMO.
The delivery van’s helper, Jonathan Leavres, 19, suffered a minor injury.
PSMS Prime Chrysler Velarde, officer-on-case, said that the accident happened at 12:05 a.m. while the suspect’s truck was traversing at the said highway heading toward Sariaya.
Based on the suspect’s statement, he tried to avoid colliding with the motorcycle in front of the truck, so he veered on the left lane but it crashed head-on into the van that was traversing in the opposite lane heading to Pagbilao direction.
