Faithful urged to pray for persons deprived of liberty

Legazpi Bishop Joel Baylon, chairman of the Catholic Bishops’ Conference of the Philippines-Episcopal Commission on Prison Pastoral Care (CBCP-ECPPC), has called on the faithful to include in their prayers Persons Deprived of Liberty (PDLs).

Bishop Baylon said every person needs all the prayers, especially inmates on their journey back to God’s loving arms.

“Let us include in our prayers all PDLs for them to renew their faith. We all need prayers in our journey back to God and for all of us to deepen our faith,” the Church leader said in his message for the 35th Prison Awareness Week which is observed from October 24 to 30.

The observance, the prelate said, is a reminder for everyone to remember those who are in jail and to remind them of their spiritual need and freedom.

Bishop Baylon is set to lead a Solidarity Eucharistic Celebration for the inmates at the Maximum Security Compound of the New Bilibid Prison in Muntinlupa City.

The theme for the 35th Prison Awareness Week is “Towards a Listening, Healing and Loving Correctional Community.”
