Filipino junior golf champion Lucas De Guzman heads the five-man Philippine Team of the Junior Golf Foundation of the Philippines (JGFP) that will see action in the Thailand Golf Association (TGA) Junior World Championship starting Saturday, Oct. 29, at the Prime City Golf Club in Nakhon Nayok, Thailand.
As a five-year-old campaigner, De Guzman, son of popular social media personality Lue and former Philippine Football Team training pool member Rommel, has been dominating his age group of 6-under category in the JGFP-sanctioned tournaments.
He turned six last July.
De Guzman has already participated in the 2022 IMG Academy Junior World Championships in the US - the golf championship for junior golfers around the world where he made the Top 20 and eventually finished 16th in the 6-under division.
Because of his achievements on local soil, as well as his experience in the IMG, there is hope for De Guzman to finish high in the Thailand tournament where he will be guided by former Philippine jungolf champion Artemio Murakami.
Also expected to do well in the tournament is Stephanie Gaisano Gan, daughter of current JGFP president Oliver Gan who will see action in the 6-under girls.
Other members of the JGFP Philippine Team are Maria Brianna Macasaet (7-8 girls), Kamila Del Mundo (6-under girls) and Halo Virgil Pangilinan (6-under-boys).
“We’re very excited that our young players will be playing here in Thailand. We hope that they do well, but the most important thing here is for them to have fun, meet new friends and enjoy the experience,” said Gan.
