San Juan active Covid-19 cases drop to 36; Mayor Francis stresses importance of vaccination

San Juan City Mayor Francis Zamora underscored on Thursday, Oct. 27, the importance of vaccination against Covid-19 as he announced that the number of active cases in the city is now down to 36.

In an interview with ANC, Zamora also reported that the city has four percent bed utilization rate in quarantine facilities, and only five percent Covid bed utilization rate in San Juan Medical Center (SJMC).

"Napakababa n’yan even if voluntary na ang pagsusuot ng face masks outdoors. Even if all activities are allowed now, we only have 36 active cases (This is really low even if the wearing of face masks outdoors is voluntary. Even if all activities are allowed now, we only have 36 active cases)," Zamora said.

"Out of the 36, zero are critical and zero are severe. So bakit kaya ang San Juan nagagawa ito (How can San Juan do this)? We are No. 1 in terms of fully vaccinating our target population at 247 percent, we are No. 1 in administering the booster at 103 percent, and we are No. 1 in pediatric vaccinations for aged 5-11 years old at 93 percent," he added.

The mayor then explained some of the city government's programs and initiatives in ramping up the Covid-19 vaccination rate of San Juan.

The city government also launched its Bisikleta para sa Bakuna vaccination information drive where Zamora and other city government officials and employees bike around different parts of the city to personally promote the vaccination program to its residents.

It has also brought the vaccination program to the barangay level by setting up several satellite vaccination sites in barangay halls to serve more people, particularly those who are incapable of going to the primary vaccination venues.

Zamora said they have also opted to vaccinate their bedridden residents in their own house to ensure that they are protected against the virus.

Satellite vaccination sites were also opened in all public schools in San Juan so that children and their parents can also receive the vaccine.
