QC, Malabon, Navotas, Valenzuela cited as top performing LGUs in local revenue generation

The local governments of Malabon, Navotas, Valenzuela and Quezon were recognized on Wednesday, Oct. 26, by the Department of Finance (DOF) Bureau of Local Government Finance (BLGF) for their tax collection efficiency in Fiscal Year 2021.
The cities were cited during the BLGF’s 35th Anniversary celebration at the Philippine International Convention Center (PICC) in Pasay City.
According to Brenda L. Miranda, BLGF Local Fiscal Policy Service (LFPS) officer-in-charge, the event aims to motivate the local government units (LGUs) promote security, job creation, innovation, and disaster preparedness.
Miranda said that there were various award categories prepared to honor the ability of LGUs to efficiently collect local revenues and adapt best practices to maximize revenue collection.
Among the categories were Highest Locally Sourced Revenues, Collection Efficiency of Locally Sourced Revenues, Year-on-Year (YoY) Growth in Locally Sourced Revenues, and the Hall of Fame award.
QC ranked first in the Highest Locally Sourced Revenues, making the city the top-performing LGU in local revenue generation among all the cities in the Philippines.
It also won 4th place in YoY Growth among National Capital Region (NCR) cities.
The awards were received by Quezon City Mayor Joy Belmonte and City Treasurer Edgar Villanueva.
Valenzuela City ranked 10th in Highest Locally Sourced Revenues and second in Collection Efficiency, achieving 136.4 percent in collection efficiency and 13.7 percent in YoY Growth among NCR cities.
Valenzuela City Mayor Weslie "Wes" Gatchalian received the awards together with City Treasurers Adelia E. Soriano and Atty. Cecilynne R. Andrade, and City Assessor Adelia Soriano.
“Sama-samang efforts naman (ito) ng Lungsod ng Valenzuela. Tulong-tulong ang mga tao, tayo, sa pagkamit nitong mga awards kaya nakakatuwang patuloy (ang) pag-recognize sa atin (This is a unified effort of the people in Valenzuela City, we helped each other in earning these awards, so we are glad that we are constantly recognized by BLGF)," said Soriano.
Meanwhile, Malabon ranked first in YoY Growth with 26.5 percent in revenues among NCR cities and second among all cities in the Philippines.
Malabon City Mayor Jeannie Sandoval and City Treasurer Norman David Delos Reyes received the awards.
Navotas City ranked first in YoY Growth among all the cities in the Philippines.
Navotas City Mayor John "Rey" Tiangco received the awards for the city.
"Malaking parte po ng award na ito ay dahil sa inyong suporta sa maaga o on time na pagbabayad ng buwis. Ang pondo namang nakalap ang ginagamit para sa mga serbisyo at programang inihahandog natin sa mga Navoteño (A large part of this award comes from your support by paying taxes early and on time. This will fund the services and programs we serve to Navoteños)," Tianco said in a Facebook post.
Navotas and Quezon Cities received the Hall of Fame award, a special recognition for LGUs that attained an exemplary performance in local generation revenue for three consecutive years.
BLGF’s founding anniversary is a month-long celebration highlighting human resources interventions and wellness for BLGF employees, an international seminar on real property taxation in Southeast Asia, formal recognition of top-performing LGUs, and the BLGF Employees’ association culminating program.
