'Piso lang?': Marcoleta claims Marcos could pay Soriano more using his confidential, intel funds
SAGIP Party-list Rep. Rodante Marcoleta has cast doubt on President Ferdinand "Bongbong" Marcos Jr.'s pronouncement that Paul Soriano--the latter's adviser on creative communications--would only be paid an annual salary of one peso.

Marcoleta, during a recent episode of Net 25's Sa Ganang Mamamayan, insinuated that Marcos can always tap his confidential and intelligence funds if he wants to give Soriano a more significant pay for his services.
Commenting on Soriano's yearly salary of P1, which Marcos himself declared last week, Marcoleta said: "Para lang gusto nilang sabihin, gratis et amore (What they want to say is, he will be working for grace and love)."
"Pero mahirap tanggapin ng ating mga kababayan na ganun at ganun nga ang kapupuntahan niyan (But it would be hard for our people to accept that scenario)," the former UniTeam bet added.
Marcoleta never mentions Soriano by name, although it was obvious that he was referring to the celebrity director.
The veteran congressman then discussed Marcos's confidential and intelligence funds and how these could impact Soriano's work.
"Kasi pag sinukat mo naman ang prerogative ng Pangulo na maari siyang magbigay ng sweldo, pwede din naman. Kasi mayroon siyang intelligence and confidential fund na kung hindi ako nagkakamali, P4.2 billion (When you measure it, the President has the prerogative to set a salary, he can do that. Because he has intelligence and confidential funds worth P4.2 billion, if I'm not mistaken)," Marcoleta said.
"Ngayon, kung maganda naman ang performance naman niyang creative communicator, sa papel nga, piso nga lang parang ibig sabihin, wala (Now, if the creative communicator does a good job, but on paper it's just one peso, which basically means he has no salary).
"Pero dahil confidential at intelligence naman yun at hindi naman nasusukat ng mga audit yan, oh eh yun lang ang pwedeng pagmulan ng pag-uusapan pa riyan (But since the confidential and intelligence funds don't have to undergo audits, then that's the only source of the next conversation)," he said.
Soriano is the husband of popular showbiz personality Toni Gonzaga. They are avid supporters of Marcos.
Marcoleta ran as a senator under the Marcos-led UniTeam slate but withdrew just weeks before the May 2022 elections.
Marcoleta had earlier assailed the aesthetic lighting of the San Juanico Bridge, which the President led himself.
