Abra solon surveys earthquake damage, extends aid to affected residents
Abra Lone District Rep. Ching Bernos has started distributing emergency aid or ayuda to families affected by the 6.4-magnitude earthquake that jolted Abra and Ilocos Norte on Tuesday, Oct. 25.

The lawmaker went around the municipality of Lagayan, which is one of the municipalities where local infrastructure and family homes experienced the brunt of the earthquake.
The Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs) initially said the tremor was at 6.7 magnitude but downgraded it to 6.4 as of midnight on Wednesday, Oct. 26.
Bernos went around the municipality to distribute food packs, rice, and sleeping and hygiene kits to the families affected by the earthquake.
In a Facebook post, she wrote about giving out P10,000 in cash “to families whose homes were shown to have substantial damage so they can have it repaired and stabilize their houses from further harm.”

The lawmaker was also seen in the photos she posted inspecting several public infrastructure, such as schools, and the homes of the victims.
Substantial damage was seen in several homes in the municipality.
It was not lost on Bernos that this was the second earthquake to hit Abra in three months; the last one being last July.
“We are well on our way recovering from the trauma of the past earthquake, yet another one comes again to remind us of the calamity,” she said.
“Please continue to pray for us in Abra, that the Almighty God once again strengthen our hearts and minds so that we can brave through this unfortunate event,” the lawmaker added.
