Here's the advantage Cascolan brings to the table, according to ex-DOH chief
Iloilo 1st district Rep. Janette Garin has specified one advantage that former Philippine National Police (PNP) chief Camilo Cascolan can bring to the table as incoming Department of Health (DOH) undersecretary.

And that's better coordination between the DOH and the PNP when it comes to work on the ground.
Garin, a former DOH secretary, discussed in a recent interview over ANC Headstart how hard it is to deal with local government units (LGUs) while responding to health emergencies during calamities.
"I was commenting as a former secretary of health because nakita ko po ang problema sa loob din (I've seen the problems fro, the inside). Lets say, when we talk about calamities response, dealing with LGUS is not that easy, we have programs, policy and that doctors and experts would go to mayors and governors. There sometimes strong resistance," she bared.
"What I am looking is the possibility that when DOH goes there we have former chief of PNP coming there, then you already have workers on the ground by PNP helping the health personnel implement their programs," she said, referring to Cascolan.
Garin underscored that not all tasks of the DOH are performed by medical or technical personnel.
"Minsan nagkakaproblema ang ganun kasi (We get these kinds of problems sometimes because) technical scientist and doctors would always have their huge and important roles, but cascading that down is often foreign to many of the scientists," shared the lady solon.
Garin had earlier asked Filipinos to give Cascolan a chance to prove himself.
Cascolan served as PNP chief from Sept. 2, 2020 to Nov. 10, 2020 during the previous Duterte administration. He has yet to take his oath as DOH undersecretary.
