Cholera outbreak declared in Bacolod village


BACOLOD CITY -- The city government here announced on Wednesday, Oct. 26, the City Health Office’s declaration of a cholera outbreak in Barangay Alijis.

The CHO made the declaration after three positive cases of cholera were reported in the said village.

The CHO issued an advisory on Oct. 25 (Tuesday), stating that the reported increasing cases of cholera infection in the village has been causing alarm and apprehension among the residents of the barangay.

The advisory was issued and signed by Dr. Ma. Carmela Gensoli, City Health Officer, pursuant to the provision of Section 7 of Republic Act 11332 or ‘Mandatory Reporting of Notifiable Diseases and Health Events of Public Health Concern Act.’

The CHO said the local government shall conduct presumptive and confirmatory testings within Barangay Alijis to ensure clearer diagnosis on the number of cholera cases and to alleviate the outbreak.

Also, disinfection methods will be consolidated and disseminated on household-community levels to educate them on precautionary measures and treatment of cholera.

The Business Permits and License Office (BPLO) shall also report a list of water refilling stations that complied with the sanitary and safety regulatory standards for the awareness of consumers and to ensure access to safe water.

The CHO strongly encouraged everyone to practice proper sanitation, basic hygiene, and to be vigilant on signs and symptoms of cholera.
