The intertropical convergence zone (ITCZ) and shear line could bring cloudy skies, scattered rain showers, and thunderstorms over most of the country in the next 24 hours, the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) said on Tuesday morning, Oct. 25.
The ITCZ—an area where winds coming from the northeast and southeast hemispheres converge—could affect Palawan, Visayas, and Mindanao.
The low pressure area (LPA), being monitored by PAGASA at 920 kilometers east of Eastern Visayas at 3 a.m., is embedded within the ITCZ.
Meanwhile, the shear line—a region where warm and cold winds meet—could affect the provinces of Cagayan, Isabela, Aurora, and Quirino.
PAGASA advised those in areas affected by the ITCZ and shear line to be vigilant against possible flash floods or landslides during moderate to heavy rains.
The northeast monsoon, or “amihan,” could also bring partly cloudy to cloudy skies with isolated light rains over Ilocos Region, Cordillera Administrative Region, the rest of Cagayan Valley, and the rest of Central Luzon.
The rest of Luzon, including Metro Manila, will have partly cloudy to cloudy skies with chances of rain showers or thunderstorms due to localized thunderstorms.
The public is also advised to stay vigilant against possible flash floods or landslides during severe thunderstorms, which are often accompanied by sudden heavy rains, lightning, thunder, gusty winds, and sometimes hail.
