ATIMONAN, Quezon -- Three people were killed while 11 others were injured in a collision involving an SUV, a trailer truck and a passenger bus on Monday night, Oct. 24, in Barangay Balubad in this town.
The Atimonan Police identified the fatalities as Gener Pablo, Melandro Bocito, both of Oas Albay, and Chona Pablo of Daet, Camarines Norte.
The three fatalities were riding the SUV driven by Jovelito Amar, 58, who was also injured along with his two passengers, Noel Viernes, 50, a pastor and a resident of Bulan, Sorsogon and Jeneth Amar, 55, a teacher.
Also injured were Rosel Diez, 44, bus driver and a resident of National Road Balagtas in Batangas City and Eva Bayaro, 47, an accounting assistant from Bitas, Tondo Manila.
The six others were bus passengers and were all discharged from the hospital.
Gener Pablo and Bocito both died on the spot while Chona died while undergoing medical treatment at a hospital.
The police report said that the incident happened at around 10:40 p.m. when a Gumaca town-bound ALPS bus with plate number NGJ 4046 driven by Diez encroached the opposite lane after its tires slid on the wet portion of the highway.
The bus bumped an incoming SUV which then collided with a parked trailer truck on the left shoulder of the highway. The trailer truck was driven by Jeofrey Carido Jr., 37, a resident of Brgy. Salay Echague Isabela. Corido was reported unhurt.
Diez is still under observation at the hospital and will be transferred to another hospital in Lucena City provided by a police escort as the pertinent paper is being prepared for filing a criminal complaint against him.
