Marcos meets with ex-UK prime minister, WHO director general


President Ferdinand "Bongbong" Marcos Jr. met with former United Kingdom prime minister Tony Blair and World Health Organization (WHO) Director General Dr. Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus during the foreign leaders' courtesy call in Malacañang.

Blair and Ghebreyesus separately visited the President on Tuesday afternoon, Oct. 25.

According to the Office of the Press Secretary, Blair and Marcos discussed a wide range of topics on bureaucracy and governance based on the best practices in developed countries.

Marcos and Blair previously met in the United States on the sidelines of his attendance at the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) in New York, discussing initiatives to achieve lasting peace and sustainable development.

They then talked about the peace process in the Bangsamoro Autonomous Region of Muslim Mindanao (BARMM) and explored concrete ways to address other priority issues in the global economy, such as food security, climate change action and trade.

Blair serves as the current executive chairman of the Tony Blair Institute For Global Change, a non-profit organization that seeks to support political leaders and governments to build open, inclusive and prosperous societies in a globalized world.

The President, in his meeting with Ghebreyesus, thanked the WHO for the vaccines extended to the Philippines at the height of the Covid-19 pandemic.

He also congratulated the WHO director general for his reelection to the position.
