Globe Telecom Inc. is digitally transforming the Bangsamoro Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao (BARMM), putting up new cell sites and addressing pain points.
The self-governing entity has no organized voice network, no centralized internet connection, formal email system or standard service level and monitoring.
Hence, the telco seeks to address these issues for greater transparency and efficiency.
At the same time, Globe is putting up 235 new cell sites within BARMM's cities and public areas by the end of 2022 so consumers and businesses can maximize their connectivity.
Todate, the telco has fired up 130 new cell sites and is currently upgrading the capacity of 175 4G towers.
It has also laid down 19,000 fiber-to-the-home lines out of the 25,376 yearend target.

For its part, the BARMM wants to leverage mobile wallet GCash for disbursement purposes, payment of fees, and renewal of permits.
Already, GCash has partnered with Loval Government Units (LGUs), such as Makati City and Cordova in Cebu.
In addition, BARRM wants a partnership with KonsultaMD, a subscription-based telehealth service, provided 24/7 medical service through its team of licensed doctors.
Overall, “Connectivity and digital inclusivity improve the quality of life of people and boost their access to public services," says Ana Paula Villaflor, Globe Enterprise Sales Head for Visayas and Mindanao.
"Digital solutions also help businesses increase efficiency and productivity, and contribute more to the economy,” she added.
Globe expands its network and offers its services to government entities like BARRM to develop the countryside development, especially in Visayas and Mindanao, Villaflor maintained.
Organizations that are not digitally native need to embark on digital transformation, according to William Brian Arnaiz, Globe Business Operations Transformation Manager for Visayas and Mindanao.
The Bangsamoro region, a political entity still in its infancy after the grant of autonomy, is just catching up with technological advancements after decades of conflict.
BARMM Chief Minister Ahod “Al Haj Murad” Ebrahim commended Globe for using technology as an aid for innovation and transformation.
“In this fast-changing and modern world, the intellectual capacity of humans is being utilized to produce contactless, wireless and seamless human-to-human and human to non-human interactions. This is a gift that we must sustain and preserve and should not be abused,” he noted.
