Potential cyclone may be headed for Eastern Visayas or Northern Luzon

The low pressure area (LPA) east of Surigao del Sur still has the probability of becoming a tropical cyclone this week, according to the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) on Monday morning, Oct. 24.
The latest analysis by PAGASA shows two scenarios regarding the possible path of the weather disturbance, said weather specialist Aldczar Aurelio.
“Una ay lalapit o maaaring tumbukin ang Eastern Visayas. Pangalawa ay maaaring patungo sa Northern Luzon (First, it will approach or may hit Eastern Visayas. The second, it may go to Northern Luzon),” Aurelio said in the weather update posted on PAGASA’s official social media page.
The LPA, which is embedded within the intertropical convergence zone (ITCZ), was estimated to be 790 kilometers east of Hinatuan, Surigao del Sur around 3 a.m., Monday.
PAGASA said the LPA still has no direct on the country.
The ITCZ and northeast monsoon, or “amihan,” remain the dominant weather systems this Monday.
PAGASA said cloudy skies with scattered rain showers and thunderstorms may prevail over Visayas and Mindanao due to the ITCZ—a region where winds coming from the northeast and southeast hemispheres converge
The State weather bureau warned against possible flash floods or landslides during moderate to heavy rains.
Meanwhile, the amihan may bring cloudy skies and rains over Batanes and Babuyan Islands.
Ilocos Region, Cordillera Administrative Region, and the rest of Cagayan Valley may also experience isolated light amihan rains.
The rest of Luzon, including Metro Manila, will have partly cloudy to cloudy skies with chances of rain showers or thunderstorms due to localized thunderstorms.
