Remember the 990 kilos of shabu seized in a policeman-owned lending agency office in Manila early this month?

It appears that there were more or less 42 kilos of shabu, worth P285.6 million, that were sneaked out of the lending agency office before the inventory of the seized illegal drugs.

And the culprits are allegedly two police sergeants assigned to the Philippine National Police-Drug Enforcement Group (PDEG).

The incident was discovered after a review of the CCTV before and after the Oct. 8 raid at the Wealth and Personal Development Lending Inc. in Sta. Cruz, Manila allegedly owned by Police Master Sgt. Rodolfo Mayo, Jr.

Mayo was then an intelligence officer of the PDEG and was arrested after he also yielded at least two kilos of shabu inside his car in a follow-up operation in Quiapo, Manila early morning of Oct. 9. He was already sacked from his post and now detained.

In the CCTV footage, two men were seen going out of the lending agency office and were also seen loading two bags inside a car.

When one of the police sergeants was asked to shed light on the incident on Oct. 13 based on the order of PDEG director Brig. Gen. Narciso Domingo, the cop admitted that there were 30 kilos of shabu still in their possession and that the car is owned by another PDEG operative.

The police sergeant was then instructed to return the 30 kilos of shabu but instead of personally delivering the illegal drugs, he informed his superiors about two bags in front of Camp Crame in Quezon City on Oct. 15.

During the inspection, it was found out that the two bags contain 42 kilos of shabu.

PNP chief Gen. Rodolfo Azurin, Jr.. admitted that there is now an ongoing investigation regarding the incident.

"There is an ongoing investigation and as I have said, all those involved, all those whose names would surface in the conduct of the investigation will be held accountable in order to put a stop on the issue of recycling (of illegal drugs)," said Azurin.

After the seizure of the illegal drugs on Oct. 8, the PNP released a statement that it would request the proper court for the immediate destruction of the confiscated illegal drugs in order to prevent any attempt of recycling.

The issue of recycling confiscated illegal drugs is one of the issues that hounded the government's drug war in the past six years.

While then president Rodrigo Duterte promised to end the illegal drugs proliferation in the country within three to six months of his administration, he later admitted that he could not do it since he himself was surprised by the magnitude of the operations in the country that involved government officials.

2 PNP generals probed

During a press briefing, Azurin said that there was an ongoing investigation on the involvement of at least one police general.

But he said it is too early to even float their involvement since there are still no pieces of evidence that would link them to the Manila operation wherein 990 kilos of shabu were seized.

The two police generals' names surfaced over their alleged link to the police sergeant who owns the lending agency where the 990 kilos of shabu were seized.

"They are on a floating status. But this is unfair to them because their names are being dragged into this although there are no sufficient pieces of evidence so far," said Azurin.

"These officers have careers, they worked hard for their career and that is why we are very careful, we are not mentioning any names," he added.
