ILOILO CITY – African Swine Fever (ASF) has spread to another town in Iloilo province.

Gov. Arthur Defensor Jr. confirmed on Monday, Oct. 24, that ASF cases have been logged in San Miguel, the neighboring town of Oton that recorded the first ASF case in Iloilo.
The Iloilo Provincial Veterinary Office said a number of pigs had died in a barangay in San Miguel.
The IPVO announced suspected ASF cases in Oton on Oct. 13 which were later confirmed by the Metro Manila laboratory of the Bureau of Animal Industry, an attached agency of the Department of Agriculture (DA).
The DA-Western Visayas has yet to make any official statement on the ASF cases in Oton or an update in the cases in San Miguel.
The DA-6 has been mum following an order from the DA Central Office in Quezon City that clearance is needed to release information on ASF cases to the local media.
Only officials from the local government units (LGUs) in Iloilo as well as Oton and San Miguel have been giving information to the media.
The IPVO reported more than 120 cases of ASF in Oton.
