ICYMI: Disney shares its recipe for Filipino chicken adobo

The mass media company is celebrating #FilipinoAmericanHistoryMonth with an iconic Pinoy dish

In the US, October is dedicated to Filipino American History Month. According to ABC News, “it commemorates the first recorded presence of Filipinos in the continental United States.” It recognizes the history, heritage, culture, and achievements of Filipino Americans. And joining the celebration is Disney. 

Last Oct. 22, the American film studio released a post sharing its recipe for the iconic Filipino dish, chicken adobo—and it seems pretty legit. The post features the artwork of Bianca Austria, a young Filipino illustrator who recently graduated summa cum laude from California State University.

“This has been in the works for a few weeks now and I’m so excited to finally share with you all! For Filipino American History Month, I had the honor of working with Disney to bring to life an illustrated chicken adobo recipe,” Bianca said. “It is now live on their feed but obviously had to post on my page for you all!!!”

“Thank you to the team at Choreus and Disney for having me on board. Although this project was short and sweet, it’s definitely one for the books,” she added. 

In 2021, the mass media company celebrated Filipino American History Month by featuring Fil-Am staff who are part of its family. Check out Disney’s recipe for chicken adobo below or see more of Bianca’s artworks inspired by her own memories of the Philippines here.
