Filipino migrants help spread the faith around the world – Bishop Santos
Balanga Bishop Ruperto C. Santos cited the contribution of Filipino migrants in spreading the Catholic faith around the world.

Bishop Santos, who is currently in Bangkok, Thailand to attend the Federation of Asian Bishops’ Conference until October 30 said, the Catholic faith that was brought to the Philippines by foreign missionaries continues to grow in many countries because of the Filipino migrants.
“The Catholic faith in Asia was sowed and spread by early foreign missionaries. Through their sacrifices even to the point of martyrdom and services, we are what we are now. The Catholic faith that we practice is now being preached and spread by our Filipino migrants. We can now say that our migrants are our modern day missionaries and messengers of the Gospel to especially to the Middle East and Europe,” said Bishop Santos over Radio Veritas.
“Migration is a reality and trend in Asia. Our migrants are builders of the infrastructures in the Middle East. They fill up the churches in Europe. More attention for their protection, promotion of their rights and preservation of their natural customs should be provided by concerned agencies,” added the Church leader.
The second week of the FABC conference centered on the topic of Emerging Realities in Asia wherein lay representatives from the 29 member countries of FABC shared their experiences in serving the different church ministries.
The prelate said the Church must provide more guidance and assistance to the youth as its partners in spreading the faith, particularly in this digital age.
“Asia is young people. They are for us the hands of God, our efficient and effective companions in the Church. With their immense knowledge on social communications, they are for us the voice of God. We should always accompany them, guiding them to the right and moral path, and guarding them from the deafening noises of false news, materialism and the lure of fame,” Bishop Santos stressed.
The two-week FABC conference is part of its 50th year celebration. Saint Pope Paul VI established the FABC in the Philippines during his Papal visit in 1970.
